Yesterday's selection by Biotic got me in a comfortstand mood, in fact, I started thinking about Aleksi Virta. "Hey what is he up to?" I asked myself. Well the answer is unfortunately not as much as I wish!! But... there was something great. Ain't Nuthin' (but a swamp thang), available from his own site (I think), made me happy happy happy. It swings, it slides, it lounges, it would be perfect for a night with that special someone, if they're into exotica.
Without any further ramblings on my part, enjoy:

BSWC One-a-Day: Nick Chapman - Take Me Now
The netlabel, Comfort Stand had some wonderful compilations, but none so accessible as Wakka Chikka Wakka Chikka [csr049]. It got a lot of downloads on account of it's subject matter.
The explanation resides in the release notes:
Nick Chapman - Take Me Now
The explanation resides in the release notes:
"Even if you have never seen a porn movie in your lifetime, almost everyone in the world knows what the 'Wakka Chikka Wakka Chikka' represents... Each person, upon hearing it, mentally interprets the 'Wakka Chikka Wakka Chikka' in their own way, fueling a range of emotions from lust to disgust."This is a very nice tune from that collection.

BSWC One-a-Day: DoF - Thirsteen
I was listening to the excellent broadcast to podcast, Netwaves (in it's new time on the Mothership, WBCR-LP 97.7 FM Tuesdays at 8 Eastern) and heard their interview with DoF. They played today's selection and I was hooked. (It helped that I had just climbed out of the Williams River with the sun setting in the west).
The tune is from a compilation on Soulseek Records. The collection is called trabant chai compilation [sisk007].
I gather from the interview that this tune was a watershed for DoF as it was the first time he went all electronic. It is a very nice piece that stuck with me for some time after I heard it.

BSWC One-a-Day: Martin Messier - Quatre pattes, c'est pas assez
Just released on no type, Martin Messier's album Et si l’aurore disait oui is a worthwhile journey into one man's very unusual compositional technique. Each note, string, syllable, and key is recorded alone and then mixed together. The result is a very compelling set of tracks that don't fit easily into any single classification.
I chose the third track because I love the amalgam of vocals, however, it was a hard choice - every track has redeeming qualities. But this one brought back fond memories. As a child I had a strange 7" LP labeled "Superman." It was definitely not the Superman I expected, but rather a vocal experiment that was almost as terrifying as a ouija board, at the time.
Once you are done listening to the selection I've posted, download the entire album, put your headphones on, turn down the lights, maybe grab some writing paper and a bottle of wine. This is a good album for a journey.

BSWC One-a-Day: Jan Turkenburg - Awakening (Sending Packages to the moon)
:: WM Recordings :: releases :: WM065 Jan Turkenburg - Packages to the moon
What an opportunity! I get to blog a WM Recordings new release before Subsystem gets to it. I was crossing my fingers yesterday when this was released, hoping that he wouldn't post it. And, here I am today.
Jan Turkenburg is very cool, indeed. I first discovered his particular brand of cutting and pasting at Comfort Stand and have since enjoyed his contributions to WM Recordings.
A school teacher, Turkenburg does his thing in Zwolle, Overijssel, The Netherlands.
A recurring theme in his work is space travel (this includes a lovely little number mixing a children's chorus with samples from various versions of the TeeVee show, Star Trek). This release's title track is space related and I wanted to share it.

BSWC One-a-Day: Technology of Silence - Velo-city
From the release "Out From The Silence" comes the fast paced electronic journey Velo-city. Recorded in 2005, it was released into the commons on the 23rd of June, 2007.
Technology of Silence is from the Russian Federation, and releases their music on Kaos Ex Machina, a Polish netlabel connected with a web magazine of the same name. This is the first time I've come across the netlabel, and it looks like I'll be digging through 26 releases as "Out From The Silence" is #27.
Enjoy.

BSWC One-a-Day: Marcexl - In My Brain
Via sonicSQUIRREL, euro netlabel aggregator, comes a tune released by a netlabel out of Hamburg, Kreislauf.
I don't know anything about Marcexl except that I dig this tune. The sound that is unique to German electronics.
If you want to explore the netlabel scene, then you should drop by sonicSQUIRREL for a look-around.

BSWC One-a-Day: Phundamental - Anxious Afternoon
How was your afternoon?
This comes from a release just posted by the netlabel, phonocake. The release is called Awakening of the Bit Dragons.
Phundamental has the nostalgia thing working bigtime with a contemporary flare. Anxious Afternoon made mine.

BSWC One-a-Day: adrián juárez and ilia - shells
I've been mulling over whether to post this track since its release 3 days ago. I guess the test of time is true, it is still haunting me, and needs to be purged to the blog!! The track is the title track from a release by adrián juárez and ilia named shells on the netlabel Stigae Records.
Stigae is from Berlin, Germany. They have a relatively sparse site but pleasing site, no about us, but they are part of the network buffer for contemporary art provided by EXPEREMENT.org.
Vaguely reminiscent of tubular bells, this piece has several themes repeating over and under each other. The melody (or what I am calling the melody) threads itself between the repetitions, supported by a fairly reserved bass line. You will like!

BSWC One-a-Day: Mequetrefe - Fire Walk with Me
Xan Molina Quiroga is mequetrefe. He released his self-titled collection [alg031] on the netlabel, alga-a.
Quiroga uses guitars, computer and virtual instruments to create a sound that touches on dub here, psychedelia there and is rounded out with a post-rock kind of sensibility. Whew, that took a lot out of me.
Fire Walk with Me stands out on the release, as far as I'm concerned.

BSWC One-a-Day: Idmonster - Close Harness
A new release from monotonik caught my attention this evening, Idmonster's Preloved EP. Idmonster is Pendle Poucher, a musician from the UK who hasn't released on monotonik since 2002. Mr. Poucher creates and plays music for television and documentary.
Close Harness, is the first track on the EP, and my personal favorite. As with many other tracks I've chosen this year, the full composition takes its time building up, but won't disappoint. Thank you Idmonster for this release, I hope they keep coming!
Monotonik was founded by Simon Carless in 1996 with the premise of providing an outlet for talented electronic musicians who "weren't getting the attention they deserved." Monotonik says "We do this for fun. Music is great, and giving great music away for free is even better."

BSWC One-a-Day: Mark Redito - I am Shift
Let this one build. A simple 8-bit melody that builds layer and layer rewarding you with some 80s synth sound vocals. I was just in California talking with some people I met about how the synth is back in! It sure is in today's selection.
"8-Bit Love combines a 20-something's view on life in post-Eraserheads Manila, and is filled with bright lyrics and squeaky synths."
The author, Cocolulu, aka Mark Redito, describes himself as falling in love with The Beatles and trying to imitate Ringo's playful drumming (age 10). Then at age 16 he joined the punk rock scene before "growing out of it" and moving into electronica. The release, 8-Bit Love [qd-4244], is the latest from QED records, a netlabel featuring electronica from the Philippines.
be good!

A bit of Canadian plunderphonics for your ears. This release has been sitting at archive.org since 2002 and has about 2500 downloads. It's called Happy Meal [nt066]. It is part of the netlabel, No Type's collection.

BSWC One-a-Day: The Rabbits - Blow You Crow
No digging for today's choice, WMRecordings just released something great into the world.
This album is full of fun, interesting, creative, gems. It is an unselfconscious trip through lots of mixed up genres. Music that you will like, your boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife will like, your children will like(maybe not every song for your kids, listen before playing) , and your dog might even like. Releases like this make me feel extremely lucky to be a creative commons music junky.
As it says on WMRecordings, "if you like music, you'll love the music here. Sign up today for a low, low introductory price of 51 minutes of your time."
The rabbits is Matthew Orzeszek - no address provided, but I think he's from the UK.
Today's selection is like a mashup of beatles / zappa / elvis costello / and pure exotica. Great sounds. Great music. Excellent high energy bounce.
enjoy (you lucky bastards)

BSWC One-a-Day: Jan von Grafenstein - Work Out
"13" is the name of this March 2007 release from the netlabel, Test Tube. The artist, Jan von Grafenstein comes from Germany and presents a smooth, chill sound.
Jan von Grafenstein - Work Out
Jan is pretty much unknown in the netmusic scene, although he had a track - 'Luun' - released onto one of the famous Mercedes-Benz Mixed Tapes sometime ago. This thirteen track collection (hence the release title) that we're releasing could be easily filed under chillout, jazz fusion or even related to the highly productive late 90's Vienna scene. It's almost summer, relax.

BSWC One-a-Day: Ixtlan - My Name Is Bo Green
So back to archive.org. It wasn't long before I discovered an excellent pick for you today. Ixtlan (Bo Green and Kent Holm) are a Swedish experimental group. "My Name is Bo Green" is not as experimental as other tracks on vuk 110011110, which you can download in its entirety from archive.org.
This release is off of the netlabel TROORG which was started "to promote danceable electronic music, based on organic or natural samples, sounds and structures, and to merge experimental weirdness with complaisant audibility" -- cool!
enjoy.

BSWC One-a-Day: bert jerred - buzz | kill | jumper | v2
Today's pick is a find from the newly released songs on one of the first CC sites I ever visited, Opsound. Opsound's interface is spare, almost bleak, and leaves all of the flourish to the many many talented people who release their work into the cc universe.
"buzz | kill | jumper | v2" by bert jerred and listed with the tags "none" "none" on Opsound, is a tight, quick, no frills, sound trip - giving you a short burst of electrolytes. A perfect warm up for exploring the vast dimensions of CC music, and a great place to return to to cleanse your pallet.
enjoy this excellent pick.

Georg Neufeld's Lakeside People has a peppy dance house style. Clean and did I say, Peppy.

BSWC One-a-Day: Coax - Solaris
Sticking with the astronomy theme, today's track is the title track from Solaris[am037] by Coax in august of 2005 on AcediaMusic.org. I spend a lot time listening to music that is hot off the presses and it's nice to look through a netlabel's releases. This is the case with coax. The release is a concept album based on the novel Solaris by Stanislaw Lem.
Beautiful symphonic ambient. The theme feels very familiar. The track tells a story, it gives one the sense of expansiveness and mystery. Natural power beyond human control not interested in the human experience. Solar winds and a breathing cosmos.
You can download the entire album from archive.org.
enjoy.

BSWC One-a-Day: Eta Carinae - Ecos
SS7 was compelled to dig around a bit. Up came Eta Carinae, a cool Brazilian band named after the peculiar star Eta Carinae which is roughly 100 times the size of our sun, and 4 million times brighter. They chose the name because Eta Carinae is one of the brightest stars in the universe, and the name has the same meaning in Brazil as in does in any other part of the world.
kus on Starfrosch featured Ecos, a great song, touching vocals, catchy melody - these guys & gals are great!
Enjoy.
