Professor Kliq - Wire & Flashing Lights

Back on February 18 we posted a track by the good professor for the first time.  Time to circle back 'cause this is pretty awesome.

This is the title track off the release which you can find on Professor Kliq's Soundcloud page.  

Professor Kliq is Mike Else from Chicago.  He has been producing music since 1999 and places all of his original work in the Creative Commons.

We owe a tip of the hat to Laika who contributed this as part of a Top Ten List to our friends at Starfrosch.  It's a great list.  

If you are looking for a good aggregator of CC music you should definitely dip your toes in the warm Swiss waters of Starfrosch.

Thanks go out to our friends at Starfrosch for pulling our heads around to this wonderful release from Dusted Wax Kingdom.  

The release is called Born To Be Beats by Mounika.  Mounika is from Poitiers, France.

The release page at archive.org doesn't have much information, but Kus at Starfrosch fills in the blanks for us:

Largely inspired by calm music, he picks his samples in some jazz, funk and abstract songs. He spends most of the time looking for that famous perfect sample, digging in internet and vinyl.

It's worth your while to dig into this release, no doubt about it.

A nice hat tip to Starfrosch for today's post.  I love this tune from Space Adept.  In fact, I like it more and more as I listen to it.

A tip of the hat to both Starfrosch and Netwaves for this one.

Inje are from Belgrade, the capitol of Serbia. It's name in Serbian, Beograd, translates as "White City".

According to Wikipedia, Belgrade is a party: 

Belgrade has a reputation for offering a vibrant nightlife; many clubs that are open until dawn can be found throughout the city. The most recognizable nightlife features of Belgrade are the barges (splav), spread along the banks of the Sava and Danube Rivers.^{[175][176][177]}

Many weekend visitors—particularly from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and Slovenia—prefer Belgrade nightlife to that of their own capitals, due to a perceived friendly atmosphere, great clubs and bars, cheap drinks, the lack of language difficulties, and the lack of restrictive night life regulation.^[178][179]

Barge or not, this is serious Electro-pop.  

We don't know much about Inje, but are willing to know more.  This is the first single from a mini-album "Protok" by inje, released in 2012.

Fausto Mujica (LFA) - Wanderer

A big shout out to our friends at Starfrosch.ch for this post.  Love. It.

Fausto Mujica is a DJ, musician and an awesome producer. He is from Mexico City. 

Wanderer is the title track for a collection of tunes he produced to mark his sister's wedding this past summer.

He has a huge jackpot of material posted at his Soundcloud site. Most of it is in the Commons.

As is often the case, we don't have much information beyond what you have read above. 

Take a listen to the excellent body of work LFA has posted in the last few years.

Spiedkiks – The Day Before

Spent some time poking around Starfrosch and found a pointer to this nice little tune.  Starfrosch is based in Switzerland and has developed as a central aggregator of excellent netaudio content.  Take a look.

Spiedkiks work with the netlabel Rec72 where they have a few releases.  This tune is from a collection called Take Off Your Make-up. They are from Cologne and Stuttgart.   They started working together in 2009.  

There is a great interview with the duo on Cerebral Rift.  Here is a snippet on how and why they are working in the commons:

We started releasing Creative Commons music in May 2013 with our debut album on REC72. Well, to be honest, the first reason for us to release our music under a Creative Commons License was we just wanted to be heard.

It is just great for us if there are people out there who like it, listen to it and use it in videos or whatever. There are billions of bands out there, hundreds or thousands of new releases every day, and it is very hard to sell music.

We just reached 50,000 downloads this week at FMA [Ed: Free Music Archive] with the album “Take Off Your make Up”. That is just amazing!! There are of course more reasons for us to release under Creative Commons but let´s just say, the whole idea is just great.

This one is hard to categorize...aren't they all. I leave it to the liner notes:

People have said that Flu makes samba pop, that he is psychedelic, or that he is modern. Words are not always the most exact way of defining sounds. Flu's new record is something to be listened to and tasted in all its richness before it is labeled or thrown into one of the many preconceived pigeon-holes of pop culture classification.

BSWC One-a-Day: Hidden Fortress - We Be Gettin' Busy

I remember when Hidden Fortress posted this tune on ccMixter almost a year ago. It came back to mind via a Starfrosch post about a newish website that seems to be repackaging ccMixter material using CC licensing. The site is called Funky Remixes.

I haven't spent too much time at the site, but it does appear to be mostly content that originated at ccMixter. Cool idea, but I have to admit that I will continue to spend my time combing through the amazing wealth of material at ccMixter.

We know a little about Hidden Fortress. They are from the U.K.

The name was chosen from Akira Kurosawa’s film of the same name, and because of the intended and continued secrecy of who they really are, wanting to be judged on what they do, not what they were. After an initial request from a student of Matthew’s “Wind Chill Factor” to be remixed their appetite grew, now Hidden Fortress re-mixes are spreading like a wild fire.

They haven't contributed at ccMixter since July, 2006.

Today's selection includes a sample by the Beastie Boys from the Wired CD collection that was the basis for the first ccMixter contest way back when.

BSWC One-a-Day: Finn the Giant Meets Beatsquad - Hospital Dub

"I need a hospital because I've fallen and broken my heart in two..." and with that line I knew that this tune had to be a One-a-Day pick.

We are sticking with the dub theme that Subsystem started yesterday. This one is from Finn the Giant at Giant Sounds and I discovered it via the Swiss blog, Starfrosch.

Finn the Giant does dub remix with a tune by the Swedish reggae group, Beatsquad.

If you like these sounds, then you will want to check out the Giant Sounds Net 7 inch catalogue 2005 - 2006 at archive.org. A collection of 12 tunes filled with dub joy.

This one is a lovely tune that made me smile.

BSWC One-a-day: Tim and Puma Mimi - Popkiller

What would I do without Starfrosch, the fabulous Swiss music blog?

They have come through again by alerting me to a new release by BSWC Fav's Tim and Puma Mimi. They have a new tune out that comes with a video release. The tune is called Popkiller.

It has that homegrown production style that brings to mind lower Eastside, NYC about 20-30 years ago. Very cool.

"...in spring 2004 we released the EP "The Adventures of Tim & Puma Mimi", on alpinechic.net.
We thought, that was it: Mimi had to go back to Japan and Tim stayed in Switzerland... But the little seed grew in the internet and came into real life: Radios started to play the songs, it was anounced in newspaper and after one year the first invitations came for concerts."

They are playing a very cool bill tonight in Zurich. You can catch them with Pureape, Freiraum, and Severin24 at Dynamo starting at 9:00 pm...in just couple hours from now.

Wow! What a find. From an Austrian Netlabel (via Starfrosch) comes Peter Fox Simon with this fantastic tune, I Wish.

On his MySpace page Peter says he is from Vienna. This is all I have on this artist. I'm grooving on the sound.

The Netlabel, Jhruza, is using CC licensing to post teasers from their releases online. There are 4 of 8 songs from Simon's release, Instant Future, posted at their site.

From Bern, Switzerland, It's Starfrosch!

As mentioned previously, this is my week for posting CC music at CC:365.org. Here is Day 308:

"I don't completely understand what they are doing over there in Bern, Switzerland with this Starfrosch concept, but that has not kept me from entirely enjoying what they do. It's a podcast, a web 2.0 net community, a Creative Commons music site...you name it, it seems like they have it going on...

Here is something that I stumbled on while putting together tonight's Black Sweater, White Cat. (This song made it into Set #4). I tend to like tunes that include a touch of the electronic along with that organic guitar sound. Yesterday's Day 307-Seiji Toda-Clock Works had that going for it as well.

Here is how the Starfroschers describe what they do and this release, da schau her, on archive.org:

in addition starfrosch is also a platform for podcasting, netaudio-news, networking and a gamecenter. according to douglas adams "hitchhikers guide to the galaxy", frogstar world b is the planet which plans the restaurant at the end of the universe.

that's where we all would like to go, to hear jeannie casey (voc) and carina schilling (voc) unfold their voices, and sing themself into the souls of the listeners. while christoph geissbühler (piano), markus koller (laptop), adriano schneider (guitar) and daniel schärer (bass) are concentrating on groove and harmony during their recording sessions. those guys don't talk about musical biographies, but instead feel like they were born with their instruments and play. and their tonal diversity is best reflected in the music.

It is great, they are great.

From Berne, Swizterland: Starfrosch

From the capital of Swizterland comes Starfrosch. A self-described "indie net-audio community". A lot of stuff here, but because my Swiss Deutsche is a little rusty, I focus mostly on the music. There are tons of different netlabels and indie net releases on their podcast pages. From Starfrosch:
