Trondheim - Erlöst von dieser Hoffnung

Another blocSonic release hit the net last night. It is a good one. Perhaps a little quieter than some, but there are some fantastic cuts on this compilation.

This Trondheim tune is from an Aerotone release called Zum Abschied (AER013). Aerotone is a netlabel with the catch phrase, "welcome to aerotone. we are a netlabel and we love melancholic music." This gives you an idea of what to expect from this track.

Like other Trondheim efforts, this one has a strong classical feel to go along with chill beats and gentle atmospherics.

I've posted material included on blocSonic compilations in the past (last week, as a matter of fact) and really appreciate the work that blocSonic impresario, Michael Gregoire has put into the effort.

The Harvey Girls - Good Morning Bubblegum

The notes at archive.org talk about The Harvey Girls' ability to "...weave sweetly delicate melodies into hauntingly evocative soundscapes, creating a seamless fusion of pop and sonic experimentation..." and I can hear it, yes I can.

This is a truly innovative release that totally works. I can hear where I've been and where I'm going--if that makes any sense.

Guitar and pop lyrics with some very original touches...I would like to hear more. The release is self-titled and appears on the imaginary netlabel.

Channel 3000 - Holiday and Ice Cream

I've been wanting to post this for a few days now and finally have a moment to get it done. You need to listen to this tune.

Channel 3000 have a number of releases out on the Glam Slam netlabel. Holiday and Ice Cream is on a release called Siesta.

I love the sampling and the pure fun of this tune. It is quickly becoming my summer anthem.

Mikrosopht - Very Deep Pleasure (With John Cage)

New this week: netBloc Volume 14 (Kills 99.9% of Bacterium Poppus Radiolus!)

The netBloc volumes are compilations put together by Michael Gregoire at his site blocSonic. Gregoire has really devoted himself to promoting the netlabel, copyleft music scene and in the process has captured and documented some rare finds. He is meticulous in the preparation of liner notes and artwork, as well as full and complete permissions and licensing. This is no small effort.

Volume 14 has some really great material. There are ten tracks, but the first track really grabbed me when I gave it a spin. This tune was originally released on
Wakka Chikka Wakka Chikka - Porn Music For The Masses Vol. 2, a February 2008 release from WM Recordings. John Cage samples in a sexy milieu that is full of little musical surprises. Very cool.

DURDEN - Broken (DURDEN Version)

So, Creative Commons has put an RFP on the streets offering to sell ccMixter. I heard about it on Friday from Jon Phillips via Tweeter. This morning I looked at what Victor Stone, ccMixter's principal administrator had to say about the prospect.

Essentially, CC is looking to get out of the social networking business, something in which, they acknowledge, they have little expertise. My impression is that the RFP goes to some length to protect the resource. My fingers are crossed.

Meanwhile, I took a gander at the site and, as usual, found some amazing work posted. I was quite taken by this remix by DURDEN. It has a ethereal quality that marries some strong vocals by Amelia June with incredible work by ccMixter regular Trifonic.

Durden’s epic treatment surrounding Amelia June’s sorrowful vocal track from Trifonic’s masterful “Emergence” album is a symphony for the new millennium. Surrounding pained sadness with determined power, gentle strings giving way to powerfully melancholic guitars, soaring and circling above a rhythmic foundation made of pure rock.

If you haven't already delved into the musical treats at ccMixter, then now is the time to visit the site and see for yourself.

Das Kraftfuttermischwerk - Shadows on Wooden Beaches

It is hot here. Hot, hot, hot.

I'm posting from a shady porch surrounded by trees. I'm listening to an excellent tune that seems as if it was created for the very purpose of creating calm and keeping cool.

I found Das Kraftfuttermischwerk at scene.org which is a tremendous source for great copyleft music. I probably don't go there enough, but the user interface is rough and finding stuff can be difficult. Usually I find myself at scene.org after following a link from a netlabel or other front-end source.

Das Kraftfuttermischwerk have excellent bio materials at their MySpace page, here is an excerpt:

"Born in 1977 and 1976 Nico Wawersig and Ronny Kraak grew up in eastern Germany – the Wall casting a cloud over Berlin. At the time electronical music was unfamiliar, for cultural activities were of governmental concern."
Enjoy these opening days of Summer. Stay cool.

Siegfried Gautier - On S'est Marre (Version Feutree)

I have enjoyed Sigfried Gautier in the past and he has been featured before on these pages, but all of that material was from Jamendo. This wonderful little tune was recorded years ago (November, 1999) and appears at archive.org. I love the smoky mystery that develops as it goes along. Timeless. The name of the release is Deux mille ans de bonheur.
Hailing from France, Gautier has played with Psychonada and Creme Brulee. And, as I discovered in my first CC posting in several months he has material waiting to be discovered-one of the exciting things about this gig is the discovery.
