Getting wild...the weekend is nigh...

Thanks to our friends at Netwaves for posting their tribute to Da ! Heard It Records, a netlabel that has catalog going back to 2006.

This track comes from a 2009 release called Disco.  Puyo Puyo began his musical career as a New Wave drummer and from there began producing his own sounds and touring the continent and Mexico performing a reportedly wild stage show.

The liner notes describe the sound:

This album is a delicious witches brew of German new-wave, Psychopolka, Turbopop and that little Puyesque je-ne-sais-quoi, iodiosyncratic dissonant melodies, glitch and kitsch licks.

Machette – Hit De Deck

Found this gem while listening to the latest Netwaves playlist on archive.org.  If you are looking for an enduring source of netaudio, the Netwaves radio program out of Brussels as been good for going on 8 years now (weekly).

Machette is a French artist who started producing in 2000.  This track is from a 2014 release called Flavors EP.  It was released by Yarn Audio, a Berlin-based netlabel specializing in bass driven electronic music.

The diverse french producer renders a lot of energy and happiness with his sample-heavy and fast-paced tracks. Influenced by Hip-Hop, Dubstep, Footwork and Jungle, Machette’s broken beats and easygoing melodies are just perfect for a dance in the sunshine or the ghetto.

ForstWölfin - First in Space

This track was featured on a Netwaves radio program that was posted on archive.org on March 25. As some might know, we at BSWC are fascinated with Sex and Space.  First in Space gets at our Space issues...

When we went to research ForstWölfin we found their Soundcloud page, but then found that their Twitter account had been suspended...hmmm, a mystery.  Not to worry, this piece from the Netwaves program, [nws329] netwaves 09.19: darktronics, carries the day.

First in Space is part of a ForstWölfin release from the netlabel, GV Sound called Beyond Time and Space. ForstWölfin is from Moscow. The release was posted at archive.org on February 25.

Make sure you listen past the 2 minute point.  The first 2 minutes features some wonderful cosmonaut found sound which thrills us, but then we get to business...

Inje - Kofein i CO2

A tip of the hat to both Starfrosch and Netwaves for this one.

Inje are from Belgrade, the capitol of Serbia. It's name in Serbian, Beograd, translates as "White City".

According to Wikipedia, Belgrade is a party: 

Belgrade has a reputation for offering a vibrant nightlife; many clubs that are open until dawn can be found throughout the city. The most recognizable nightlife features of Belgrade are the barges (splav), spread along the banks of the Sava and Danube Rivers.^{[175][176][177]}

Many weekend visitors—particularly from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and Slovenia—prefer Belgrade nightlife to that of their own capitals, due to a perceived friendly atmosphere, great clubs and bars, cheap drinks, the lack of language difficulties, and the lack of restrictive night life regulation.^[178][179]

Barge or not, this is serious Electro-pop.  

We don't know much about Inje, but are willing to know more.  This is the first single from a mini-album "Protok" by inje, released in 2012.

Crookram - Crookrilla

Crookram is from the Netherlands.  I found this little gem on a Netwaves playlist at archive.org. We are fans of Netwaves, a ccmusic radio program based in Belgium.  If you are looking to sample a wide range of sounds be sure to visit them.

According to a wikipedia page, Crookram is Chris Angelovski, a musician from The Hague.  In 2006 he began releasing his music on Budabeats, a netlabel out of Hungary.  Crookrilla is from a 2010 release called Through Windows.  

The Wikipedia entry describes his sound:

...an electronic music producer from The Netherlands, known for his extensive use of sampling in downtempo music. Crookram describes his sound as "cinematic, sample-based, downtempo soul music...

We need to listen to more Crookram.

Mc Norman - Why

We love new traditions.  Creative Commons Affiliates has put out a mixtape of 25 different artists from around the world who are using the license to get their music out there to share. Released on netwaves records, this is a tremendously diverse grouping of musical talent and styles.

For our post today we offer this tune from South African-based Ugandan artist, Mc Norman.  His music is published on Jamendo.com and features a popish reggaeton sound.  This tune is very catchy and worth a listen.

As mentioned above, the mixtape provides an incredible window into the international Creative Commons music world.  The artists release their music on a wide-range of platforms, including Jamendo, Free Music Archive, Soundcloud, Archive.org and Bandcamp. There really is something for everyone on this release.

Reaching back into the catalog of the wonderful, if defunct netlabel, Comfort Stand, for today's post. Merry Christmas, cha, cha!

MartiniBomb is/was a Portland duo that figured very prominently in the early iterations of BSWC...Subsystem 7 and I were playing them constantly, almost every week.  And for good reason...it's a party. Here's a snippet from the Comfort Stand notes:

...they enjoy cobbling odd songs together from vinyl records, tin cans, sticks and chewing gum. Martinibomb enjoys reading books, collecting records, brewing sake, and watching obscure films.

You can find this link in many of our program playlists on the blog, but it never made it into the feed. I noticed the tune in the playlist of Netwaves, the Belgian-based CC radio broadcast.  It showed up in [nws265] netwaves 7.32: poptronics in 2013. 

If you need some energy to get through this busy day before contemplating the more sombre elements of this holiday, then get your groove on.

BSWC One-a-Day: Rasterfahndung - Pizzicato Suite (I Like This Pizzicato)

A lot of things going on here that I really like:

1. I like Netwaves from Radio Scorpio in Belgium. They are neighbors of BSWC-The Show Saturday nights on the mothership, WBCR-lp (they come on right after us at 11:00 pm Eastern). I was listening to number 13 of their series last Saturday. They had a fantastic interview with Lawrence Lessig about Creative Commons. And, the music was great, including 3 or 4 songs that we have played and enjoyed on BSWC-The Show. Today's pick was number 4 in the set list. I like feeling kinship.
   
2. Rasterfahndung is from Berne, Switzerland.
   
3. Rasterfahndung fuses an electronic sound with acoustic instruments. Including the guitar of niklaus erismann and the laptop of marcel kägi. This tune also has some very sweet piano.
   
4. "...in these days of foggy langscape-walks each track feels like eating a crispy pizza with various ingredients on a sunny terrace somewhere in the south."
