BSWC One-a-Day: Transistor Karma - April TK

The mixters at ccMixter.org are having a blast with Calendar Girl's project. Calendar Girl has been collecting remixes of her monthly releases for a compilation that is coming soon.

On August 31st, Transistor Karma uploaded a particularly nice mix. Check it out.

I don't know much about Transistor Karma. The artist has three remixes at ccmixter. According to the site profile, the artist likes "female_singer_songwriter". I'm totally there.

BSWC One-a-Day: Incoherent Mumble Train - February (Mumblemix)

On a day that feels like February here is a tune that meets the moment.

Today's selection was an editor's pick at ccMixter. The tune uses 'pellas posted by Calendar Girl as part of her Calendar Songs project. Her plan: "I WRITE ONE SONG A MONTH. YOU REMIX AND FEEDBACK. WE MAKE A RECORD."

Incoherent Mumble Train has posted his January and February remixes to ccMixter. February is sweet.

Calendar Songs began in October 2006. Everything on the Calendar Songs site carries a Creative Commons license. We are currently waiting for March.

Elijah Lucian - CalendarGirl - June (Elijah Lucian One Hour Beat)

The voice takes me back to the mid-aughts...say about 2006-2007 when CalendarGirl, aka singer song-writer Tamara Barnett-Herrin was laying down tracks for the mixters at ccMixter.org.  Of course, those tracks haven't gone anywhere and in July 2014, Elijah Lucian provided a fresh, updated take on her "June" tune.

Mixter Spinmeister interviewed CalendarGirl in 2008 and here is a taste:

In October 2006, singer song-writer Tamara Barnett-Herrin from London in the UK published a one sentence challenge to herself and to remixers around the World Wide Web: “I write one song a month. You remix and feedback. We make a record.” This experiment in songwriting and remix culture unlike any other yielded over 300 remixes, setting a new record at ccMixter. Twelve of them have been chosen to be published in an album titled Calendar Songs Volume I. Known to the ccMixter community as Calendar Girl, she has graciously agreed to an interview with ccMixter.

BSWC One-a-Day: Jellyman3 aka apeskinny - May Apeskinny Mix

One ccMixter post, one Editor's Pick. Sometimes that is all it takes.

Jellyman3 aka apeskinny used the vocal tracks that Calendar Girl has been laying down for her song-a-month remix challenge to put together this synth-based construction that has many layers.

Jellyman3 has had an account at ccMixter since July 9. It will be interesting to hear what comes next.
