DubRajah - Ngezi

Peaceful and serene are two words that describe this release by DubRajah from the netlabel, Dubophonic. The sounds of Africa via Moscow provide a great listen. Found this release, called Enkang, on the Netlabel aggregator, CCTrax.com. 

 Some words from the netlabel about the artist and release: 

"Enkang" means "homestead" in Maasai language. Maasai is one of the very few tribes who have retained most of their traditions, lifestyle and lore. "Enkang" is also the name of DubRaJaha's EP, which was recorded in the period from Autumn 2013 till Summer/Autumn 2014 in Arusha (Tanzania), Stone Town (Zanzibar, Tanzania), Wete (Pemba, Tanzania) and Moscow (Russia).

Wow, I forgot how fun this can be.  Found this gem on archives.org.  It is originally from a film by the same name that was directed by Emir Kusturica.  Balkan big band is the genre and I can't get enough of it.


There are four tracks on the archives.net release to enjoy.  Here are some notes from the release:
This orchestra possesses tremendous positive power which, apparently, should be the integral attribute of the Balkan music, but is far not at each foreign collective it turns out such shaking and positive. «Bubamara Brass Band» – a pleasant exception.

The new wave of interest to the Balkan music in world scales has been provoked by launch of the well-known Yugoslavian director of Emir Kusturica. Hasn't avoided its influences and Russia where among the other structures which have addressed to a musical heritage of the Balkans, the Moscow orchestra «Bubamara Brass Band» maestro Alexander Kashtanova is brightly allocated.

O.K., We are back.  From where, who knows?  Glad to be here with this sultry, jazzy number that was posted at ccmixter.org  The Paloseco Brazz Orchestra has some really jamming content available on the remix site.  Also know as Waldhorn33, PLO is a multi-instrumentalist and composer with some bad ass brass going on.  Worth adding to your collection.

It could be the heat.  It might be a holiday or it could be a shift caused by Google discontinuing Reader, but I'm paying attention to my collection of RSS feeds again.  This release from BlocSonic came into my ears.  I like.  Simple as that.

The description at archive.org goes something like this:

"Today we’ve got a treat for you that goes by the name of Dr. Mindflip. Imagine, if you will, Nick Cave being held hostage by Frank Zappa and the Pixies in deep space… well that comes a little close to what “A Brand New You” sounds like. Sinister, hallucinogenic pop that are at times delivered in unsettlingly-intimate piano melodies."

A very up tempo number from ccMixter.  The mix and mash site has become a repository for great Creative Commons Christmas music over the years.

This mix was posted last week and we are pleased to include it in our 2012 Black Sweater, White Christmas collection.

This is a great way to get the BSWC thing going this 2012 Holiday Season. From ccMixter, this tune was uploaded December 3, 2011 by Copperhead. It features samples from texasradiofish, Norm Peterson,Robert Siekawitch, Dino Rocco,Evan Copp, and Elissa Montanti.

As Texasradiofish commented: "Santa will no doubt agree that this is a wonderfully festive remix."

Lee Rosevere - Trick Or Treat

Two posts in a matter of minutes after going almost a year in silent running.

I had to put this Lee Rosevere piece up to mark the season. Lee is a friend of BSWC and has been featured here in the past. I'm not sure when he put this one up at archive.org, but it is a good one.

"A stormy night pushes you to toward a huge and dark house belonging to the reclusive Dr. Slocum, a mysterious genius who converted a closed asylum into an evil labratory, where he hides from the world with his menage of monsters of science. But the ghosts that haunted the asylum are still there...

Once inside you hear ghostly pianos with no-one playing them, strange moans and cries of terror, floating spirits, dark and empty operating chambers, and more than one dungeon inhabited by abandoned 'experiments'..."

Time to dress the feed up a little. I think the Japanese have a word for dormant blogs...something about rings on the pond. BSWC certainly has been dormant.
