BSWC One-a-Day: The Walt - Happily Ever After (we reveal)

Found The Walt on opsound. From Utrecht, Netherlands, they are 4 people who knew each other while in other bands and came together to create a new sound. ;)

"We are writing together for almost two years now and are proud of what we've achieved: hard-rocking music in which we're searching for the beauty of melodics and melancholy."

enjoy this track:

BSWC One-a-Day: Transient - Pulse Light

I have a special place in my heart for chip tunes, especially done well. Today's selection was pulled from a very recent release, single sample sessions, that I found on archive.org.
"These tracks all have the following in common, each was constructed from a single sample (Square, Pulse, and Sine waves respectively). This was my own attempt to see the level of complexity I could achieve working within this limitation"
Transient is Carl Martin, from New York. He has a large number of releases, available from archive.org and on his website.

I really enjoyed this release, great experiment, well done! Enjoy.

BSWC One-a-Day: Tsunami Wazahari - Introducing to My Mind

The air is thick.

It is a New England summer. And, what says New England summer better than thick, wide dub.

This number is from the netlabel, Al.Dente.Rec.

BSWC One-a-Day: Ezylohm_tek - Mankind

Sometimes things just work out or workout, depending how you look at it.

From Enough Records comes Ezylohm_tek with the release, Prometheus [enrmp106].

Put this one in your workout mix, you should rip off a quick kilometer or two.

BSWC One-a-Day: Butumbaba - Festa - feat. NEGRO (LA CRUDA)

Biotic has planned a great show this Saturday the 28th based on a pile of fresh selections from Jamendo. (catch it at 9 Eastern if you are in the Berkshires at 97.7FM or if you are in Kasilof Alaska on KWMD, or live online) Jamendo is a total favorite of ours for mining for CC music. It has an incredibly deep and surprisingly good catalog. You can always find something great. With Biotic's inspiration in mind, I chose a selection from Jamendo.

Festa is the first track off of Majikakonvinazion, a great latino reggae/ska album just released by Butumbaba on Jamendo. High energy ;) Majikakonvinazion is Butumbaba's first release on Jamendo, but not their first release. Based in Sante Fe Argentina, the band formed in 1993. I think they have an excellent sound!

Enjoy this track, and then download the entire album!

BSWC One-a-Day: Blue Lotus Dream - Bamboo Room

Bamboo Room [ql032] is a recent release from Quiet Lounge, a Shanghai-based netlabel that features some particularly fine music.

Today's selection is the title track from this ep-style release. I don't know much about the artist. This is their first release on Quiet Lounge.

It's good.

BSWC One-a-Day: Shintaro Aoki & Georg Hekt - Moeru Kami

A day late, but not a dollar short. Today's (yesterday's) selection is from a collaboration between Shintaro Aoki & Georg Hekt from the Berlin netlabel STIGAE records. I chose Moeru Kami simply because it is the first track - I like both tracks equally. Moeru Kami has a rich, full, creative sound layered over a continuous electro-dub rhythm. While listening I began to fall into a trance, and was not ready for it to be over after just 4 minutes and 11 seconds. Mizu Utage (track 2) follows suit with richly layered sounds but seems to create a beautiful landscape with its effort.

The release Kami to Mizu EP is sadly only 2 tracks, but well well worth adding to your collection and sending thanks and donations to STIGAE.

Enjoy this track!

BSWC One-a-Day: m_ir - Sing With Me

Just uploaded to archive.org krupnyj kino by m_ir comes to us through the netlabel zufall aufnahmen (ZA), based out of Vienna. ZA does not have an limitations in style and organizes a yearly keyboard jam called TastenWahnSinn.

I like a number of tracks on this album, but "Sing With Me" to be particularly interesting - a bit campy and totally fun. m_ir is Mir Mayakow, "known as an exception-artist both, in the western and eastern avantgarde, who also integrates at his liveacts performative elements of the two cultures to his noise(house)coulisse and brings them to fusion."

You gonna love me, you gonna have me, you gonna sing with me...

BSWC One-a-Day: Etherdust - I Just Wanna Be Naked

Yep, it is back to ccMixter for today's selection.

This track was posted back in October and features some "Naked" samples by MC Jack in the Box.

I found it on a ccMixter playlist posted by mixter Apeskinny.

If you haven't visited ccMixter lately, there are a lot of cool ways to peruse the mixes. Playlists are an excellent way to see what others are grooving on and to build from there.

BSWC One-a-Day: John Holowach - The Final Rewind

Looking for cool tunes at ccMixter is a little like bobbing for apples, except it is more pleasant and ultimately, much more productive.

This selection was an Editor's Pick at the site in March. John Holowach is part of the internet band, Tryad (I've heard tell that they are among CC-founder, Laurence Lessig's favorites). The Final Rewind is a Tryad project using a sample uploaded by rjmarshall

Tryad consists of John Holowach (beat, assembly, mix), rjmarshall (texture, feel, musicality), and Vavrek (vocals, wails, lyrics). They move their compositions around the internet to each other; these are all virtual compositions.

BSWC One-a-Day: Casel - Marionette Man

Some more music from the deep well of CC music that is ccMixter.org.

This remix was posted in May and takes a wonderful piece of spoken-word posted to the site by mixter SuzieQ and marries it to some vocal samples by frequent contributer, Colin Mutchler. The result is powerful.

"My fountain overflows, get free, take a sip..."

Casel has this to say about himself:
I am a evolving poet based out of Washington, DC. I have just begun experimenting with adding music to my poetry.

I also host a poetry podcast called Cloudy Day Art where I look to play some of the collaborations I find here.
He has contributed a piece to ccMixter along with this one remix.

BSWC One-a-Day: Fourstones - India (Treatment)

I was browsing through the Editor's Picks at ccMixter and found this gem. Fourstones is one of my
favorites at the site. He has a keen ear and an unfailing sense of what is going to work.

As mixter BOCrew puts it:
"what a Groove WOWOWo the bass is crazy with this incredible Drum beat…remember me a Bernie worrel production or Bill laswell prod."

BSWC One-a-Day: Nogaro - We Are Friends

From Namur Belgium comes Nogaro, a personal project of Seb Wilkin, and from Nogaro comes the debut EP Domestic Colours. Officially released just today the track that I chose was named Smooth Desert last night and this morning it was called We Are Friends.

This track is very satisfying, not overstated, clean from the start to the end. All vocals, electronics, and instruments are done by Seb.

Domestic Colours is the 5th from the netlabel tripostal, and this is my first pick from that label.

I wish pleasure for your ears! Enjoy.

BSWC One-a-Day: Georg Neufeld - Supreme

Well, here is BSWC One-a-Day post #201.

Back on June 7, in the first 200, I posted a piece by Georg Neufeld. Today, I was listening to a CC-Club DJ Mix by Harald Walker at the Sonic Walker website (Sonic Walker has a marvelous collection of DJ Mixes--highly recommended). Supreme by Neufeld was the kick-off track on Walker's mix.

Crisp, attention-grabbing...Neufeld's style is smart. I'm making sure to download as much of Neufeld's tracks that I can find. You should, too.

BSWC One-a-Day: Spoiled Egg - Kopfschmerzen

Here is selection #200 for Black Sweater White Cat One-a-Day! Seems like just a few weeks ago that we started posting one cc song each day, and there is definitely no end in sight for the blog or the stimulating cc releases that keep coming out over the Internet.

Zeitlupe, the 70th release from On-Mix Media by Spoiled Egg, hits hard from the first track to the last. It was not an easy choice for me, but I finally came to choose Kopfschmerzen. Like many of my favorites, it begins as with a simple theme and then builds, taking you in further and further into its rhythm, adding layer upon layer, then suddenly releasing its grasp, and allowing us to fade away from it. Perfect track to end a release that you will enjoy start to finish.

Spoiled Egg is comprised of three artists, Wat Tooty and Nicotinejunk from Germany, and Mrt. Devo! from The Netherlands. Together they make very emotionally charged deep industrial.

Enjoy, and be sure to let this one build.

BSWC One-a-Day: Ditto Ditto - Recommencer (mosquitomix in G)

I'm going to make an admission this evening.

I have not being paying close enough attention to what is going down at ccMixter lately. I've been dipping into some of the posts of the last few months and have been really blown away.

Today's selection is a truly outstanding example. This is not Ditto Ditto's first time on these pages. The artist is extremely talented and produces wonderfully developed remixes that belong in your collection.

BSWC One-a-Day: Jellyman3 aka apeskinny - May Apeskinny Mix

One ccMixter post, one Editor's Pick. Sometimes that is all it takes.

Jellyman3 aka apeskinny used the vocal tracks that Calendar Girl has been laying down for her song-a-month remix challenge to put together this synth-based construction that has many layers.

Jellyman3 has had an account at ccMixter since July 9. It will be interesting to hear what comes next.

BSWC One-a-Day: Org - Nude Art

Just paging through some new releases at archive.org and came up with this lovely number.

It is from the Taktalsmittel collection. The release is called Icons [tam029]

"Tiny melodies are travelling with you, straight to Planet Beat."

Sour Grapes Dept.: Prince CD Giveaway Angers Music Industry

Prince CD Giveaway Angers Music Industry

"The Artist formerly known as Prince should know that with behavior like this he will soon be the Artist Formerly Available in Record Stores," said Paul Quirk, co-chairman of the Entertainment Retailers Association
The story is that Prince is bundling his new CD with a british tabloid, the Mail. The CD and the paper will retail this weekend for $2.80.

Sony BMG UK is not going through with their release plans in Britain.

Seems like Creative Commons licensed digital downloads of Prince are somewhere in the future, no?

BSWC One-a-Day: Switch Technique - Inner Order (Zardonic Remix)

The 11th release release from Zardonic Recordings is four remixes of Switch Technique's Inner Order. It is fast, furious, full of energy, and never out of order. Kind of a mix of speed metal and hardcore with an ounce of ethereal ambience. Zardonic describes itself as a Drum & Bass netlabel - "releasing dark, hard, unorthodox yet groovy tracks."

All four tracks are available on archive.org.

BSWC One-a-Day: Psychadelik Pedestrian - Departure Lounge (Marc Burt Remix)

This was released by Toucan Music on July 2. Something I would like to hear in a crowd with a booming PA system.

"Marc Burt takes the haunting sounds of the original and adds house beats and trance synths, ideal for whipping up the dancefloor."
It's Summer. It's Hot.

BSWC One-a-Day: Colophon - Random Acts of Violence

This track is just what you deserve! It has a great build up and goes out with some fantastic guitars. This is a case of finding a random track in my library and feeling my eyebrows lift on my forehead. It was such a great surprise, that I thought I'd share it.

Colophon is Ed Powley, who hails from York, UK. He has several albums available, you can find them on archive.org or on links from his own site. This release is from 2004 from the netlabel one.

enjoy and tell him I sent you.

BSWC One-a-Day: Mabafu - All the Working Girls

Played some Mabafu on BSWC-The Show last night. Dug it. So, I thought I would would look around for some other stuff by the same artist.

Man, this is a sweet gig.

Today's selection is from a release called Sonido del Calle [hc161]. The release showed up in March of 2006 on archive.org. Since then, it has been downloaded 5,149 times.

According to Mabafu's Myspace Page:
"Mabafus sound is best described as lofi latin dub influenced by hip hop and electronic elements.
The two most important elements are trumpet and bass."
German Reggae/Reggaeton...love it.

BSWC One-a-Day: Friendly Robber - I Like This Start

Looking around for something to post this evening and found this little gem from the netlabel, Enough Records.

The release is called Dreamer of Dreams [ENRCMP01]

I love compilations.

I loved this tune when I clicked on it...that's what it is all about.

There is a story behind this compilation:
"This is a compilation put together from and for the EnoughRadio supporters. EnoughRadio was a 24/7 netradio that got closed down due to lack of funds a couple months before this compilation was put together."

So, apparently Enough Radio became Enough Records and has gone on to produce a number of releases. Good on them.

Enjoy.

BSWC One-a-Day: Phundamental - sgnum

It is late, I found this early in the day and only found time to post now. I apologize. But, on the bright side, you will enjoy this track in the morning. Phundamental is a Lithuanian artist, releasing his work on enoughrecords which was the first netlabel originating in Portugal.

Enjoy.

BSWC One-a-Day: Acid 42 - Quiet (Bleedingboy Soundtrack remix)

Back to the marvelous Philippine electronics netlabel, QED, for this newly released collection called Nykto [qd-4245] that was created as a soundtrack. The music backs a 12-minute independent short film of the same title, directed by Elvert dela Cruz Bañares.

Today's selection was remixed by Bleedingboy Soundtrack. The music is synth-based with a touch of Peter Gabriel, among others.
"The music is a mix of ethnic and electronic, dark and light melodies, silence and rhythm, meandering into hope and fulfillment, as eventually all darkness must pass. The music was created by Acid42 (Lionel Valdellon) without having seen or known anything about the film."
It would be nice to see the film, maybe it will show up on Youtube some day.

BSWC One-a-Day: Digi Hartatak featuring Nay Nay - Balls

Well, sometimes I find a great track instantaneously! Tonight was one of those nights. Balls immediately worked for me, hiding and finding balls, how could you lose?!?! "Let's pretend that you've got some balls, and I'm going to hide them." Brilliant.

This release is from a relatively new netlabel, NoiseCollector Records, which has a coming soon notice on noisecollector.com, but can be found on www.myspace.com/noisecollector. The NoiseCollector press release promises innovative guerrilla marketing techniques and effective but non-invasive promotion for musicians who sign on to the netlabel (and some other goodies). Simply watching archive.org was all the marketing that was needed for me ;)

Nay Nay (apparently pictured) provides the vocals and Digi Hartatak the production. Nay Nay is a 99 year old female from Palm Beach Gardens, but her myspace profile is private, so I can tell you no more. Digi-Hartatak seems to be all over the place, but no specific info. I guess I'll wait for the NoiseCollector site to be released.

Oh, and I hope all those in the U.S. who celebrate it had a good 4th of July!

BSWC One-a-Day: Okapi - Bah!

A BSWC favorite for today's selection. This song has appeared on many a BSWC playlist and Subsystem posted it over at cc:365 once upon a time.

I wanted to make sure that it showed up in the One-a-Day feed.

Okapi is from Italy.

As a child, Okapi studied piano, drums, violin and solfeggio at conservatory, with such poor results that he decided to give up his plans to become a professional musician. Then, after some positive experiences in the field of musical improvisation, he began to study graphic art, and learned to steal the works of others and to use them in a personal and creative way.

Something playful for today. This simple piece made me smile, and I hope it does the same for you. Koulomek releases work on the netlabel Hampster Loco, which has a pretty deep 29 releases.

The entire release is available on archive.org.

BSWC One-a-Day: Lagos Disco Machine - i like you but you kind of freak me out sometimes

A sort of organic, avant sound to end the weekend with from a April 2007 release on archive.org. The release, Warm Orange EP, is part of the Patterns Community Sound Centre collection.

Nothing for you on the artist.
